Ron Galella ( 1931 in der Bronx, New York City) zog mit Anfang zwanzig nach Los Angeles und machte eine Ausbildung zum Fotojournalisten. In seiner Freizeit fotografierte er Stars und verkaufte seine Bilder an die Yellow Press. Es waren zumeist Schnappschüsse, spontan, nicht gestellt und außerordentlich authentisch. Ob Jacqueline Kennedy, Marlon Brando, Greta Garbo, Andy Warhol, Sean Penn, Robert Redford, Muhammad Ali, Madonna, Mick Jagger oder Audrey Hepburn er bekam sie alle vor sein Objektiv. Ron Gallelas fotografische Herangehensweise führte jedoch neben körperlichen Übergriffen auch zu Klagen, unter anderem von Jacqueline Kennedy, die ihm schließlich per Gerichtsbeschluss verbieten ließ, sie jemals wieder abzulichten. Andy Warhol hingegen verehrte den Fotografen und Elizabeth Taylor integrierte seine Fotos in ihrer Biografie.

Neben seinen spontanen Paparazzi-Fotos inszenierte Ron Galella auch Aufnahmen im Auftrag von Magazinen wie Time, Rolling Stone, VOGUE oder Vanity Fair. Über hundert seiner erstaunlichen Bilder stellt der Band vor.

Ron Galella ( in 1931 in the Bronx in New York City) moved to Los Angeles in his early twenties and trained as a photo journalist. In his free time he photographed the stars arriving at film premieres and sold his photos to the National Enquirer and Fotoplay. His pictures are snapshots rather than portraits. Spontaneous, not staged, and as a result extremely authentic. Whether it was Jacqueline Kennedy, Marlon Brando, Greta Garbo, Andy Warhol, Sean Penn, Robert Redford, Muhammad Ali, Madonna, Mick Jagger or Audrey Hepburn he managed to get them all in front of his lens. In addition to physical assaults, his photographic approach also caused him to be sued he had to promise Jacqueline Kennedy not to photograph her again as long as he lived. Andy Warhol on the other hand adored the photographer and Elizabeth Taylor used his photographs in her biography.
In addition to his spontaneous Paparazzi photographs, Galella also took staged photographs, commissioned by numerous magazines such as Time, Rolling Stone, VOGUE or Vanity Fair. The publication presents more than 100 of his astounding photos.
