Joe Meno hat in den USA bereits zwei Romane bei großen Verlagen veröffentlicht, doch erst nach seinem Wechsel zu einem kleinen Independentverlag gelang ihm mit "Verdammte Helden" der kommerzielle und künstlerische Durchbruch. Meno lehrt als Professor am Columbia College in Chicago Creative Writing. Daneben ist er Mitgründer des Magazins Sleepwalk, Mitherausgeber der Zeitschrift Bail und schreibt Kolumnen für Punk Planet. Joe Meno lebt in Chicago.
