Revision with unchanged content. The need for enhanced turbine engine efficiency continues to drive the development of materials that can tolerate increasingly higher turbine inlet temperatures. Ordered Al-Ni-Ru B2 ternary alloys have emerged as promising materials due to the potential for Ru-modified NiAl bond coats being used in thermal barrier coating systems (TBCs) for gas turbine engines. However, to date there have not been any detailed studies of the high temperature behavior of these materials. A detailed knowledge of the high temperature mechanical and cyclic oxidation behavior of B2-based ruthenium aluminide systems will thus provide guidance to the development and modification of bond coat materials for future TBCs. This book, therefore, addresses the deformation mechanisms, especially high temperature creep mechanisms, and oxidation performance of B2-based Ru-containing aluminides and describes their potential benefits as bond coat materials for TBCs. The investigation provides insights for a better tailoring of the Ru-containing bond coats for TBCs. It should be especially useful to professionals who work with TBCs for gas turbine engines and scientists/researchers in metallurgy.
