Revision with unchanged content. While studying at Sweet Briar College, Ms. Sinner realized the importance of what past feminists have done for women. Once she began research on her master s thesis at Bowling Green State University, knowing that she would like to write about the German film bandits, Ms. Sinner found that there was plenty of information on the women s movement and feminist films of the 1970s. There was, however, very little research and information on newer German female filmmakers of the 1980s or 1990s. She decided to write a thesis on important German female filmmakers from the 1980s and 1990s, how they were influenced by previous generations of women in front of and behind the camera, what the films and characters were like in the 1970s and what they later became, and what the future for these new female directors might hold. This book looks at films from Helma Sanders-Brahms, Margarethe von Trotta, and Doris Dörrie. The focus of this book is on Sherry Hormann and Katja von Garnier and the films that they have produced. The book specifically discusses Hormann´s Widows and Irren ist männlich, and von Garnier´s Abgeschminkt!, bandits, and Iron Jawed Angels, which even con templates von Garnier´s staying power in Hollywood. This book is specifically addressed to university students and professors who are interested in German Studies and German film.
The author spent her first year abroad in Germany in 1999 with the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program knowing no German. She decided to continue to study German at Sweet Briar Collge and spent her junior year abroad at the University of Heidelberg. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2004 with a Bachelor of the Arts in German.
