Für Regina Schmeken ist die Darstellung von Bewegung ein Schwerpunkt ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit. Ihre seriellen Fotografien konzentrieren sich auf den entscheidenden Moment zwischen Stillstand und Bewegung in Tanz, Fußball, Stabhochsprung oder Fechten. Die durchtrainierten Körper der Akteure gewinnen durch das Schwarz-Weiß der Aufnahmen eine skulpturale Qualität, die durch den sorgfältig gewählten Bildausschnitt und die Komposition sowie elaborierte Lichtführung verstärkt wird. Oliver Bierhoff, ehemaliger Nationalspieler und Manager der deutschen Herrenfußball-Nationalmannschaft, überraschte Schmekens besonderer Blick auf ´seine´ Disziplin, und so ergab sich ein gemeinsames Projekt: Ab Anfang 2011 begleitete die Fotografin die Nationalmannschaft zu internationalen Spielen, auch zur Europameisterschaft 2012 in Polen und der Ukraine. Die Publikation dokumentiert die Begegnung und das Spiel der Männer mit dem Ball wie eine Choreografie - eingefangen aus eindrücklicher Perspektive.

Her serial photographs concentrate on the crucial moment between standstill and motion in dance, soccer, pole vaulting, or fencing. The black-and-white photographs give the trained bodies of the participants a sculptural quality that is intensified by the carefully selected framing and composition as well as the elaborate lighting. Oliver Bierhoff, former national all-star and manager of the German mens soccer team, was surprised by Schmekens special view of his discipline, which led to a collaborative project: from early 2011 onward, the photographer accompanied the national team to international games, including the 2012 European championships in Poland and the Ukraine. This publication documents the mens encounter and play with the ball as if it were choreographycaptured from an impressive perspective.
