This study explores the shifting representations of the character of the zombie within fiction. I intend to show that they are no longer a tool of terror and find out the possible reasons for this alteration. The main focus of this thesis is the shift from modern to post-modern zombies in works of fiction. There are examples analyzed from the fields of film, video games and literature in order to illustrate the development which led to the zombies´ current status. I will refer to this change as "cutefication", and explore the methods employed within this process.
