Noni is used as a panacea to cure many diseases as a health supplement or as a therapy. It is gaining popularity for its use as an alternative herbal medicine. Root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita is one of the most destructive pathogens of noni. Due to its obligate and endoparasitic nature, it disrupts the physiology, arrest the growth of noni plants and reducing fruit yield and quality which ultimately results in great economic loss. Hence investigations were carried out using various ecofriendly management strategies to bring the nematode under check.New techniques including Scanning electron microscope, radiolabelling and interactive proteome analysis were used to understand the molecular mechanisms of host-parasite and biocontrol agent interaction. For sure the above studies would lead to the development of chemical free nematode management strategies for a sustainable agriculture
Dr.P.G.Kavitha,born in 1977 was awarded Ph.D(2013)in Nematology from TamilNadu Agricultural University,Coimbatore,India. She obtained her M.S(Nematology)in 2007 from University of Florida, Gainesville,USA. Her major area of research is biological control of plant parasitic nematodes and their proteome level molecular characterization in crop plant.
