This book presents an efficient biotechnologically improved methodology of raising plants of Litchi (Litchi chinensis), Bhumi Amla (Phyllanthus niruri) and Van Tulsi (Ocimum basillicum) through micropropagation technique for their mass propagation. Litchi is one of the precious and economically important fruit crops of the world and its fruit is an excellent thirst quencher loaded with antioxidants. In addition to medicinal uses, litchi fruit and their starchy seeds are used in brewing sweets and fragrant wine. Plant-based medicines have been in practice since decades and is indispensable in maintaining health and combating diseases. The Bhumi Amla and Van Tulsi plants have several medicinal properties known for the treatment of cancer, jaundice, hepatitis B, aids etc. The detailed methodology presented in this book could prove advantageous to the horticulturists and the industry for developing trees true to the parental type of these economically important plants.
Dr. Aerfa Mobin received her MS degree in Biochemistry from Jamia Hamdard University and PhD degree in Biotechnology with special emphasis in Plant Tissue Culture from VBU, India. Her research interests are micropropagation and genetic improvement of economically important, rare and endangered plant species using Biotechnological methodologies.
