Kevin Brooks, geboren 1959, wuchs in einem kleinen Ort namens Pinhoe in der Nähe von Exeter/Südengland auf. Er studierte in Birmingham und London. Sein Geld verdiente er lange Zeit mit Gelegenheitsjobs.
Für seine Arbeiten wurde er mit renommierten Preisen ausgezeichnet, u.a mit dem Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis und dem Buxtehuder Bullen. Für den Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis wurde er innerhalb von fünf Jahren vier Mal nominiert und hat den begehrten Preis auch schon zwei Mal erhalten.
