NPC - Non Player Character - is the name of an artistic performance staged in the virtual world Second Life: an avatar is completely controlled by a computer program and a robot to delegate play, social interaction and the avatars´ misbehaviours. The book elaborates on the topics of textual interaction with artificial humans in art, virtual worlds and the hypothesis of interpassivity which is concerned with the delegation of one´s actions and sensations to objects and other people.Marlene Brandstätter studied Computer Sciences and Sculpture. As a software engineer she combines both fields by developing creative applications with focus on 3D graphics and real-time image processing. She is affiliated with the Interface Cultures department at the University of Art and Design in Linz where she works as assistant and lecturer.
