This work provides an excursion into the history of the culture of Russian music performance and covers the period from the 10th century to the present day. The aim of the work is to study the history of the culture of flute playing in Russia from the first invited musicians to the stars of the Russian flute school in the 20th century. It also looks into the role of flute in works of Russian classical composers: Mikhail Glinka, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Prokofiev and others, analysing extracts of their scores. Upon reading this work, the reader will gain an understanding of the role of the flute in Russian musical culture.
Natalia Zhukova was born in Novosibirsk(Russia). She graduated from Saint-Petersburg State Conservatoire and then studied the Flute with Prof. Norbert Girlinger in Anton Bruckner Privat Universität in Linz. Now she lives in Moscow and plays as a soloist and member of different chamber music groups. Her repertoire includes a wide range of music.
