This book demonstrates that restorative justice constitutes a coherent vision of justice capable of finding solutions to the weaknesses of the conventional legal justice system. More precisely, this book explains why and how restorative justice could be applied during the Colombian transitional justice process. This explanation is based, on the one hand, on a thorough literature study of the field of transitional justice, the conventional and the restorative justice systems and the Colombian transitional justice process, and on the other hand, on unique empirical data gathered through interviews and focus groups carried out with 31 victims and 25 ex-combatants of the Colombian conflict.

Dr. Isabella Bueno is a Colombian researcher at the Leuven Institute of Criminology. She obtained a bachelor´s degree in Law as well as a master´s degree in International Law from the University of La Sorbonne, in Paris. Since 2008 she has been working as a researcher in the field of transitional justice and restorative justice in Colombia.
