Urban growth is particularly rapid in the National Capital Region. Towns or cities have experienced expansion in their area towards agricultural land or open land. According to Census of India 2011, Rohtak city is the third largest city of Haryana. The present study looks into urban sprawl and urban land transformation of Rohtak city with the help of remote sensing and GIS techniques. Physical expansion of the city along the major national or state highway is very fast especially along the National Highway No. 10 towards Delhi, the national capital of India. The study also takes a look at the future urban development of the city through land suitability analysis. The study critically evaluates the Draft Development Plan of Rohtak city for 2025.
