Trauma Surgery has increasingly become a specialized surgical behavior inspired by different principles and philosophy. A good performing trauma surgeon is a surgeon who knows how to deal with abdominal vascular, thoracic, urology surgery, as well as, if needed, with some gynecological and orthopedic surgery. Above all, a good trauma surgeon should know how to repair multiple traumatic injuries, which may be in different districts, in the best sequence possible, giving the correct priority and gaining the more convenient access for the best exposure. He must be inspired to the concepts of damage control and should be competent in controlling hemorrhage and contamination quickly, and in discerning when to end surgery and send the patient in ICU and/or angio suite.
In this view, the authors intent is not merely to describe the most recent surgical techniques, but to suggest the best surgical strategies by sharing expertise with the renowned trauma surgeons from all over the world.Aim of the present volume is to represent a useful and practical pocket guide addressing not only medical students, young residents, and young attending physicians dealing for the first times with severe multiple trauma patients, but also general or specialty surgeons and all professionals involved in trauma care, who want to keep themselves updated in this complex field.
