This research work deals with the requirements for tracking and tracing systems in the Central and Eastern Europe pharmaceutical industry. Requirements that have to be followed due to increased proliferation of counterfeit drugs all over the world. Not all the pharmaceutical companies are able to implement advanced tracking and tracing, it necessitates a specific approach that differs from other industries. The main aim of the work is to investigate special requirements for the product traceability deployment through serialization systems that allow pharmaceutical companies assure consumers with authentic high quality medicaments. In order to examine those requirements the interviews with the managers of the pharmaceutical companies located in the Central and Eastern Europe have been conducted. The results show that system they use for creating product genealogy and how they implement product traceability transparency. Recommendations for the pharmaceutical companies are provided on the base of the gained information.
