The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is one of the most recent hydropower project under construction in Ethiopia. At the end of this project, Ethiopia will have ultimate control over the Blue Nile River, leaving Sudan and Egypt with a lowered supply from that source. The construction of this new dam will not only influence the environment in the Nile River Basin but also its population leading to possible ethnic conflicts among the numerous groups. Thereby, this book proposes a framework that can be used as a mechanism for alleviating tensions between ethnic groups in the Nile River Basin that could exacerbate to more severe conflicts.
