Well developed physical skills as well as a high level of frustration tolerance and mental toughness are assumed to be important qualities of competitive athletes. Recognizing the paucity of research on the psychological aspects of competition in team-oriented women´s sports, this study analyzed the differences in motivational climate, perception of acute sport-specific stressors, and preferred coping strategies among three levels of competitive female basketball players in Germany.
