This study deals with the "Other/other" in selected postcolonial plays. The work is divided into four chapters. The introduction traces the development of the notion of the "Other/other" in philosophy and postcolonial critical theory, especially in the writings of Frantz Fanon, Edward Said, Homi Bhabha, and Gayatri Spivak. Chapter one deals with Derek Walcott´s Dream on Monkey Mountain, Wole Soyinka´s Death and the King´s Horseman, and Girish Karnad´s The Dreams of Tipu Sultan. Chapter two deals with Sa´dun Al-Obeidy´s "Jisr Al-´Adu" and Bnayan Salih´s "Sirat S", Abdur-Rahman Ash-Sharqawi´s Ma´saat Jameela, and Abdur-Rahman Haqeeq´s Az-Zingee Al-´Abyadh. Chapter four compares these plays and sums up the findings of this study.
