The Senkaku Islands are several small isles and rocks bursting through the surface of the East China Sea. They are uninhabited and miles away from any mainland, yet some of the most contested territories in East Asia. For the past 35 years, Japan, China and Taiwan have made claims to the islands that are situated in a region where valuable mineral deposits are presumed. "Troubled Past, Contested Future" aims at shedding light on the conflict and its impact on Sino-American relations.

Ganser, Katrin
Katrin Ganser wurde im Dezember 1993 in Koblenz am Rhein geboren und wuchs dort auf. Während ihrer Kindheit und Jugend unternahm sie bereits viele Reise inner- und außerhalb Europas alleine oder gemeinsam mit ihren Eltern. Nach ihrem Abitur 2012 lebte sie kurze Zeit in den Vereinigten Staaten bevor sie in den Niederlanden das Studium der Amerikanistik begann. Heute lebt und studiert sie in Schottland. Ihre große Leidenschaft sind neben dem Schwimmen auch exotische Sprachen, Klassische Musik und die Japanische Küche. Sie hofft eines Tages jedes Land der Welt besucht zu haben. Als sie ihr erstes Buch schrieb, war sie 18 Jahre alt.
