´Ökumene ist mehr als zwei!´ - Ein komplexes Bild der Ökumene in Deutschland

In den Übersichtswerken zur Kirchengeschichte des 19. und 20. Jahrhundert wird die Ökumene kaum wahrgenommen und wenn, dann fast nur im internationalen Kontext. Ökumene in Deutschland kommt nur sporadisch und am Rande vor.
Diese Lücke schließt der Autor, indem er mit einer ökumenischen Hermeneutik der Geschichte die ganze Komplexität der innerdeutschen Ökumene in den Blick nimmt. Er stellt alle ökumenischen Partner dar und überwindet so das in der Gesellschaft, teilweise auch in den Kirchen überlieferte Bild einer ´bilateralen Ökumene´. Ziel ist, den Reichtum, die Vielfalt und die Komplexität der Ökumene in Deutschland zu erfassen und so ihr Bild pluralisierend so zu bereichern, dass die gesamte ökumenische Breite auch bei uns anschaulich und bewusst wird, sowohl innerhalb der Konfessionen wie in der Gesellschaft.

In the authoritative literature on 19thand 20th-century ecclesiastical history, ecumenism is largely overlooked, and where it is noticed, it is almost exclusively in an international context. Ecumenism in Germanyonly crops up occasionally and in a marginal context.
The author of this volume closes this gap by examining the whole complexity of inner German ecumenism by means of ecumenical hermeneutics of its history. He portrays all the ecumenical partners, thus overcoming the notion prevalent in society - and even in some churches - of bilateral ecumenism. His objective thereby is to capture the richness, diversity and complexity of ecumenism in Germany, enhancing and pluralising its image so that within the different denominations and within German society as a whole an awareness may grow of the full breadth of ecumenism.
