Damals hatte Deutschland als Staat zu bestehen aufgehört. Vier Jahre später, 1949, entstanden auf deutschem Boden gleich zwei deutsche Staaten, die Bundesrepublik und die DDR.
Im Herbst 1989 begannen die Menschen im Osten eine friedliche Revolution, die im Jahr darauf zum Ende der DDR und zur Einigung Deutschlands führte. Damit begann die bisher letzte Etappe der deutschen Geschichte, die bis heute andauert.

This book takes a look at the history of the Federal Republic of Germany. It goes back to the year 1945, the end of the Second World War. At that time Germany had ceased to exist. Four years later, in 1949, two German states were created, the Federal Republic and the GDR.
In autumn 1989 the people in the east started a peaceful revolution, which led in the following year to the end of the GDR and the unification of Germany. With that, the most recent stage of German history began, which continues to this day.
With many photographs, maps and illustrations, a concise and vivid image of contemporary German history and society is presented here.
