Chief Ekwueme, a very rich man, unaware of the fact that he is impotent, marries three wives as he is desperate to get children. Inevitably his house becomes a theatre of war, a battle ground of all sorts as his wives employ all types of means; the good, the bad and the ugly to struggle for supremacy in Chief Ekwueme´s affection. Chiebonam, the last wife emerges the undisputed queen through foul and diabolical means. Events however, move to a cataclysmic climax and she is exposed, disgraced and chased out of Chief Ekwueme´s house. Adaku, the second wife, a sneaky, sly, scheming woman disappears as she is also exposed thus leaving Ugoye as the rightful owner of the house. Ugoye´s midnight tears are wiped as she becomes pregnant. the tense, thrilling and unputdownable story can only be penned with the superb craftsmanship that is characteristic of a maestro wordsmith, one of the masters and not an apprentice writer. -- The Reviewer
