Co-operative societies have played major roles in developing and developed countries of the world in terms of economic, social and political advancement. As a panacea to government inefficiency in developing and implementing economic policies, the growth of cooperative societies has so much increased in the development of their different areas of operation. These societies function as a group of people with common goal. Groups influence members´ attitudes, values, and behavior and help to pattern their interactions. To be effective, a group must demonstrate a sense of belonging which manifests in acceptance or readiness to accept responsibilities and adapt to groups´ rules. It becomes necessary to examine this relationship as it exists between the activities of members of co-operative societies and their performance. The study covers performance of the societies in key areas of their operations, the relationship that exists between group activities and performance in the societies. The book will be significant to operators of co-operatives in their community based groups to inculcate sense of entrepreneurial spirit.
