In the networked age, we are living with changed parameters of time and space. Mobile networked communication fosters a form of virtual time and space, which is super-imposed onto territorial space. Time is increasingly composed of interruptions and distractions, as smartphone users are overwhelmed by messages.
´This book is filled with insights into how our experiences of time and space are bound up with cultural practice and creative expression, and how developments in communication technology make possible new such experiences. John Potts covers a formidable amount of ground in a very readable fashion. He is just as much at home discussing creation myths and classical literature as he is with more contemporary phenomena such as social media, sampling and video art.´ - Graham Meikle, University of Westminster, UK
´The reader will learn from every page of this erudite, yet accessible, overview of the history, theory and transformations of our experience and concepts of time and space. It is particularly illuminating regarding contemporary arts, media and culture.´ Mitchell Dean, Copenhagen Business School, Denmark
John Potts is Professor of Media at Macquarie University, Australia. He is the author of A History of Charisma, Radio in Australia, and Culture and Technology (with Andrew Murphie). He has also edited several other books, including The Future of Writing.
