Gerda didnt forget Kay, though. Whats happened to him? she asked, but nobody knew. Perhaps he fell in the river, said the big boys. Dear river, said Gerda, do you have my friend? Will you take me to him? She stepped into a little boat, and the river quickly carried her away from the city. Gerda was frightened at first, but she hoped to see Kay again soon. At last the boat stopped near a little house. An old woman was sitting in the flower garden outside.
