Eric Carle wurde 1929 als Kind deutscher Auswanderer in Syracuse, New York, geboren. 1935 zog die Familie nach Stuttgart, wo Eric Carle später an der Akademie der bildenden Künste studierte. Als junger Mann kehrte Carle in die USA zurück und arbeitete als Grafiker, Illustrator und Art-Director. Seit 1968 veröffentlicht er Kinder- und Jugendbücher, die in über 30 Sprachen übersetzt sind und mit vielen Preisen ausgezeichnet wurden.
Eric Carles many innovative books have earned him a place in the canon of classic children´s literature.
