2012 unternahm Samuel Zuder (geb. 1965) eine Reise zu einem der faszinierendsten Orte der Welt. Der Legende nach wurde er von niemandem bis auf Yogi Milarepa im 12. Jahrhundert jemals bestiegen, wenngleich von Abertausenden Pilgern umrundet: Der Mount Kailash, der wegen seiner außergewöhnlichen symmetrischen Form auch ´Juwel des Schnees´ genannt wird, liegt inmitten der Gesteinswüste der tibetischen Changtang-Hochebene. Verehrt von gleich vier Glaubensrichtungen - Hindus, Buddhisten, Jainas und Böns -, ist er das Sujet des Fotografen, der die Anziehungskraft dieses Ortes - sein Versprechen von Glück und Erleuchtung - in Bilder bannt. Über mehrere Wochen begleitete Zuder mit einer analogen Großformat-Kamera die Wallfahrer auf ihrem rund 53 Kilometer langen Pfad um den Berg, den sie alle als Ursprung der Welt betrachten. Die stille Erhabenheit des Mount Kailash spiegelt sich nicht nur in den beeindruckenden Landschaftsaufnahmen, sondern auch in den Gesichtern der Menschen auf diesem Weg wider.
