Most used security mechanisms in high-speed networks have been adopted without adequate quantification of their impact on performance degradation. Appropriate quantitative models may be employed for the evaluation and prediction of ´optimal´ performance vs. security trade-offs, however, they do not take into consideration the adverse impact of traffic burstiness and security protocols on performance. This book reviews the development of an effective quantitative methodology for the analysis of arbitrary queueing networks and generalised stochastic Petri nets models through discrete-event simulation into performance vs. security trade-offs involving infrastructure and infrastructure-less high-speed networks. The proposed framework has a promising potential modelling the behaviour of security processing and control mechanisms in high speed network. This book can be useful for researchers who are interested in performance modelling and simulation of high- speed networks or anyone who may be considering to know about the field of performance evaluation of communication networks.
Guzlan Miskeen is a lecturer in computing department, faculty of Education, Brack, Sebha University, Libya. She obtained her Msc and PhD degrees in Networking and Performance Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK in 2007 and 2013 respectively. Her research interest includes performance modeling and simulation of communication networks.
