This book provides fundamental concepts in human thermal physiology and their applications in general public, occupational, military, and athletics settings from the biometeorological perspective. The book includes a section on human physiology, epidemiology and special considerations in aforementioned populations, and behavioral and technological adjustments people may take to combat thermal environmental stress and safeguard their health.

The book is the first of its kind to compile multiple disciplines - human physiology, climatology, and medicine - in one to provide fundamental concepts in human thermal physiology and their applications in general public, occupational, military, and athletics settings from the biometeorological perspective;

Developed by experts, scientists, and physicians from exercise physiology, climatology, public health, sports medicine, and military medicine;

Highlights special considerations and applications of thermal physiology to general public, occupational, military, and athletics settings.
Chapter1: Climate Change and Increasing Risk of Extreme Heat.- Chapter2: Human Physiology in the Heat.- Chapter3: Heat Exposure and the General Public: Heath Impacts, Risk Communication, and Mitigation Measures.- Chapter4: Heat Exposure and Impact on Occupational Setting.- Chapter5: Exertional Heat Illness in the Military: Risk Mitigation.- Chapter6: Heat Risks in Athletics.- Chapter7: Behavioral and Technological Adaptation.- Chapter8: A Road Map for Interdisciplinary Collaborations.

Yuri Hosokawa serves as the Medical & Science Advisory Board at the Korey Stringer Institute (KSI). Her research interests include prevention and education of sudden death in sport, establishing best practices in road race medicine, development of regional-specific heat guidelines and exploring the roles of genetics in the susceptibility of exertional heat stroke. She has lead inter-agency projects to advance interdisciplinary work among athletic, occupational, and military medicine with public health and biometeorology to improve resilience to extreme heat among physically active population. She is a member of the International Committee of the National Athletic Trainers´ Association, a member of the International Institute for Race Medicine Ambassador Program Committee, and serves as a science advisor for Sport Safety Japan, NPO.
