´Plantation Memories´ is a compilation of episodes of everyday racism written in the form of short psychoanalytical stories. From the question ´Where do you come from?´ to Hair Politics to the N-Word, the book is a strong, eloquent, and elaborate piece, which deconstructs the normality of everyday racism and exposes the violence of being placed as the Other.

Released at the Berlin International Literature Festival (2008), soon ´Plantation Memories´ became internationally acclaimed and part of numerous academic curricula. Known for her subversive practice of giving body, voice and image to her own texts, Kilomba adapted her book into a staged reading (2012) and video installation (2018).

This fifth edition coincides with the 10th anniversary of the book release, commemorating ´Plantation Memories´ as an important contribution to the global cultural discourse.

Interdisziplinäre Künstlerin, Autorin und Theoretikerin, geboren in Lissabon, wo sie klinische Psychologie und Psychoanalyse studierte. Stark beeinflusst von der Arbeit von Frantz Fanon, begann Kilomba über Erinnerung, Trauma, ´Rasse´, Geschlecht und (Post-)Kolonialismus zu schreiben und zu veröffentlichen; später erweiterte sie ihre Anliegen auf Form, Sprache, Performance, Film und Installation. In ihrer Arbeit schafft Kilomba bewusst einen hybriden Raum zwischen den akademischen und künstlerischen Sprachen und nutzt ´Storytelling´ als zentrales Element ihrer dekolonialen Praktiken. Ihre ebenso durchdachten wie provozierenden Arbeiten wurden unter anderem auf der Biennale de SÆo Paulo, der Berlin Biennale und der Documenta präsentiert. Kilomba promovierte in Philosophie an der Freien Universität Berlin und lehrte an mehreren internationalen Universitäten, zuletzt als Professorin an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Interdisciplinary artist, writer, and theorist born in Lisbon, where she studied clinical psychology and psychoanalysis. Strongly influenced by the work of Frantz Fanon, Kilomba started writing and publishing on memory, trauma, race, gender, and (post-)colonialism, and later on extended her concerns to form, language, performance, film, and installation. In her work, Kilomba intentionally creates a hybrid space between the academic and artistic languages, using storytelling as a central element for her decolonial practices. Her highly thought provoking works, have been presented at the Bienal de SÆo Paulo, Berlin Biennale, Documenta, among others. She holds a Doctorate in Philosophy from the Freie Universität Berlin and has been lecturing at several international universities, and was last a Professor at the Humboldt Universität Berlin. She is Co-Editor of ´Gemachte Differenz´ and ´Mythen, Masken, Subjekte´ (both Unrast Verlag).
