What happens with us during sleep? Why it is so important to sleep well? Sleep allows us to feel better; it has restorative power and improves our memory and attention. It further affects human reaction, work, learning capacity and relations with others. Lack of sleep causes human brain to function improperly. Sleepy, fatigued people make mistakes, have problems with concentration, and are increasingly prone to accidents. Not only the length of sleep is important, but also its quality. Presently, people are increasingly suffering from sleep disorders caused by many factors. Sleep deprivation is different from that experienced by most people during occasional stressful periods of work and private life. This book provides a though and up-to-date introduction to the fields of computational and theoretical sleep disorders diagnostics. It covers classical topics, including biostatistical and information theory based approach to medical data classification and interpretation.
