AM fungi are mutually symbiotic fungi which are associated with the roots of plants. They have ability to mobilize immobile soil nutrients like potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), chlorine (Cl), zinc (Zn) and molybdenum (Mo). Calcium (Ca), sulfur (S), iron (Fe), boron (B) and copper (Cu). When these all elements are made available to the plant roots by AM fungi the photosynthetic efficiency of plants increases by 20% and ultimately increases yield of the plant. Turmeric has underground rhizome which is important as spice and has medicinal properties. When it grown organically with the application of AM fungi they are free from hazardous chemicals and are healthy for the consumption. Similarly Onion has underground bulb which is important for commercial purpose. When organic fertilizers are used for the same the quality of Onion improves as compared with traditionally grown Onion. Application of Am fungi and organic fertilizers like farm yard manure, neem seed cake and combination of both are eco friendly and this is the step towards the sustainable development.
